This one is a little personal for me, my mother is a survivor(thank the gods) and my sister and I are at high risk ourselves...
The Relay for Life was the other day, and it was great. there were tonnes of people, great music from many different bands, food and drink, etc.
it was held at the local elementary school field, and the field was filled with small white paper bags, with names on them. the names were of the survivors, like my mom, and those who didn't win their fight with cancer, like my mom's best friend marsha.
they were filled with sand and a candle that was lit at dark
they were set on the field to create an oval track for the different teams to walk on, from 7pm-7am, it was incredible how many people came together, raising $$$ for this cause. the remaining "luminents" were used to make a giant "HOPE" in the centre of the field. i tried to capture it here, but you will have to look hard:
so we(mom, sis, my niece and i) walked around the track at least a dozen times, chatting with friends, family and complete strangers. certain individuals would come up on the stage they had and tell their personal story of surviving cancer. the experience in a whole felt strengthening, yet it was tempered with a type of sorrowful resolve. i could feel the pain of loss in the air, even in the friendly smiles of all who were there, but it was a pain that was both accepted and utilized as a motivator for change.

and in the end, i got to eat some fudge, it was chocolate, and it was good. damn, i wish i had some now -- no, no, i have to get up and get on the treadmill before work, *defeated sigh*, oh well...
so have a great rest of the week people, i have the weekend off so i will try to get some more random fun stuff on here for you, and watch out for forest fires, theyre running rampant all over the place!
